I’ve been there. I’ve been exactly where you are and I feel it’s my purpose to share my knowledge, skills and the experiences I've gained with you so that you can build your own successful business that allows you to live the life you desire. And no it's not a cliché, it's totally doable.
Creating the life I wanted
My business journey officially started at the end of 2008, when I went surfing for ideas. I loved teaching, but I wanted something more. I wanted something that I could build up to suit my lifestyle and I wanted the freedom and flexibility to work (and teach) the way I wanted.
I started going down the franchise path, as I felt I needed the support of ‘business people’ to help me with my business. It was only at the last minute I changed my mind and decided to do it myself. My dad, who was an electrician, managed to start his own business and grow it to have four branches in four different towns without a business degree or franchise support, so I figured I could do it too! And that’s what I did.
Within the first 12 months I had a 6 figure business and took on a second tutoring centre. It was busy, but it was just the way I liked it. I had no kids at the time, and working until 8:30pm at night gave me such joy! (Very far from what my life looks like now).
When my first daughter turned one, I decided it was time to changes a few things in my business. Family was now my priority and there was no way I could run two tutoring centres and spend my days with my 1 year-old, so I decided to sell one of the centres and restructure the other, so that we were completely mobile.
This decision allowed me the time with my daughter and freed me up from the crazy ridiculous rent that I had got myself into (a very big lesson learned there). I ran my business this way since. And when I say ‘ran it’ it basically runs itself now. I have systems in place so that it is automated as much as possible, and I have amazing teachers working for me, so that I can still spend as much time with my girls (I now have two) as possible.
